2017 Preliminary Top School Papers: Vocabulary & Editing

Yes, I know it is the school holidays. And yes I know that it doesn’t seem like the P6s get a real break in June. My own students were listing all the workshops/ extra Math, Science, Chinese language classes they were heading to after my class last week. Poor things.

But like every year the day that the PSLE is over (somewhere in the first or second week of October) it will be party time (= games on phone, games on computer, endless movies, television, books and sleep) for 3 whole months! I know this to be true because my P6 students always answer “Nothing” to my question of “What have you been up to since PSLE?” Lol.

I tell this to my P6 students every time I give them a piece of extra work to do this June holidays…to keep them motivated.

Below is the list of Vocabulary & Editing words taken from the first 4 schools of the 2017 Top School papers.

RGPS

Vocabulary

1) peak – reach a highest point, either of a specified value or at a specified time
2) simultaneously – at the same time
3) ensured – make certain that (something) will occur or be the case
4) averted – prevent or ward off (an undesirable occurrence).
5) diverted – cause (someone or something) to change course or turn from one direction to another.
6) reverted – return to (a previous state, practice, topic, etc.)
7) bustle – busy activity
8) charm –  a quality that makes you like or feel attracted to someone or something
9) nomads – a group of people who move from one place to another rather than living in one place all of the time
10) teeming – If a place is teeming, it is full of people
