The P5 2024 students will be the first batch to experience the new PSLE 2025 English format. Which component has the biggest change? The oral component. Aside from the much higher weightage, the picture format and first questions have also been modified. To find out more about the changes, read our previous post here.

Our P6 2025 students, worked for a few months on the new oral format before their P5 SA2. Overall, we are happy with our students’ Oral scores! We will continue to work hard and hope that they will be able to meet the band of 36-40 for their Prelims and PSLE this year.

Let us look briefly at what to expect for Stimulus-based conversations.

PSLE English 2025 Poster/Picture Change

The poster given will be a ‘live’ picture of people doing something. Some examples of ‘live’ pictures tested in the P5 SA2 this year were

  • A family cleaning and decorating a room
  • A book swap
  • Recycling

PSLE English 2025 Questions Change

There will be three or more questions asked.

It was the same for the P5 SA2.

What are they doing in the picture?

At TF, we created similar SBCs to work with our students on different themes, from recycling to reading in a library, for their SA2 this year.

In this way, students will practise answering such questions quickly and learn to ‘think on their feet’.

Below is one such SBC that we worked on with our students.

Questions

  • Look at the picture. Where do you think the children are and how do you think the children are feeling?
  • What events does your school celebrate? Tell us about one
  • If you could run any stall at your school funfair any way you like, which stall would you run?

Look at the picture. What do you think the children are doing?

Thought:

I think that the children are at a place of interest or an amusement park and they are having a great time!

Reason 1 & Example

The children are on an outdoor ride as there are trees surrounding the ride. The ride is usually found in an amusement park or a place of interest. It looks like a mini rollercoaster. The ride looks like it is really fun and not very steep so it is perfect for younger children like the ones in the picture.

Reason 2 & Example

The children are having a great time. All the children in the picture are smiling broadly. They do not look afraid or anxious, although they are holding on tightly. A few children have their hands in the air, maybe to wave to their parents who are watching them. One of them is doing the ‘peace sign’. Their parents could also be taking a photograph of them.

Experience

Last year, I went to Universal Studios Singapore for the first time. I went there for my friend’s tenth birthday party. I was awestruck when I saw all the rides. At first, I was really afraid to go on the bigger rollercoaster so we started with the ones that were for younger children. When I felt more confident, I agreed to go on the bigger and steeper rollercoasters. I was screaming loudly but after the ride, I felt exhilarated. Now, I am always the first to try a new ride at an amusement park!

Suggestion & opinion:

In conclusion, I think that the children are at a place of interest or an amusement park. and they are feeling scared but happy.

Which events does your school celebrate? Tell us about one.

Thought

My school celebrates quite many events.

Reason 1 & Example

We celebrate all the festivals such as Chinese New Year and Hari Raya. During those festivals, there will always be a short concert and we may get to come to school in our traditional outfits. Sometimes, we are able to try all the delicious snacks and food usually eaten during those festivals. Everyone looks forward to that!

Reason 2 & Example

Aside from festivals, my school also celebrates Teacher’s Day which is my favourite school celebration. I think that I’ve been very lucky throughout my 5 years in school. I have always had caring and kind teachers who have motivated me to do my best. Once a year, on Teacher’s Day we get a chance to show our appreciation for our teachers.

Experience

Last year, my friends and I came up with a song for our form teacher. We wrote out the lyrics and sang it on stage. We also performed a dance and dedicated it to all our teachers. It was a hip hop dance and we had practised for it for months. My teachers loved it so I think it was a success. Our parents prepared some snacks and food that we brought along to class and ate with our teachers. I also made cards for my teachers and special bookmarks as gifts. It was a really great celebration!

Opinion

In my opinion, celebrating the different festivals in Singapore is a great way to learn about the different cultures of our neighbours and friends. It can also be an opportunity to show our gratitude towards a group of people such as our teachers.

Conclusion

Therefore, my schools celebrates many festivals and my favourite celebration is Teachers’ Day.

If you could run any stall at your school funfair any way you like, which stall would you run?

Thought

I would like to run a cupcake stall.

Experience

When I was in preschool, my sister and I had a cupcake stall during the preschool charity funfair.

My sister sold homemade cupcakes that my mother had baked. My mother is really good at baking. The children could decorate the cupcakes with the different bags of icing before eating the cupcakes. I remember that it was a very popular stall and many children came to us to purchase and decorate the cupcakes. It was hard work before and during the funfair but it was also very meaningful. All the money that we made went to a charity.

I think that I would have a stall that sells homemade cupcakes that children can decorate. It is a really good idea so I will use the same idea. However, now that I am older, I will be able to help my mother bake the cupcakes.

The proceeds from the funfair would all go to an animal shelter as I am an animal lover. I think that this can be a great idea to raise funds for a good cause!

Conclusion

In conclusion, I would choose to run a cupcake stall.
