I have compiled (with the help of all my kind students who made the effort to remember the topic and pictures!! : ) a list of the composition topics my students had written for their SA1. I have removed 2 topics from the list that I feel are quite challenging and will work with the students during my Writing & Oral Workshops in June. Those schools which used similar themes and pictures were not included as well. I plan to work on all the themes with my P5 & P6 classes before the next examinations.

Looking at the P6 list, some composition topics are set in a very straightforward manner with pictures that can give the writer a lot of help in creating his story. For example, A Proud Moment. Yet others, are set with random pictures that challenge the writer to come up with a cohesive story to match the theme – for example, A Friendship.

In the more straightforward questions, my P6 students are (will be) encouraged to find ways to elevate their compositions so that theirs will stand out. A unique character? An unexpected narrator of the story? Heart stopping descriptions?

Curiously enough, the main theme in the P5 SA1 among a number of schools was something unforgettable. At this halfway point in the year, I would like my P5 students to decrease their grammatical mistakes in their compositions and use more complex descriptions to add depth and length in their writing pieces.
They also need to be very careful that they do not write out of point. This can simply be choosing just one picture and writing 2 sentences on that picture. So while the story may match the theme perfectly, ignoring the pictures given or writing just a few sentences on one picture will be taken as being out of point.

So, if you are wondering what composition topics you can use to work with your child during the June holidays, I hope that you find this list useful.

I will be posting some model compositions that my students have done or will do based on the list as well the Compiled List of SA1 Oral Topics soon.
